POLICE are reminding 4x4 owners to lock up their vehicles following a spate of thefts earlier this month.

Thieves stole a green Land Rover Defender from Hogbens Hill, Selling, between 6.45pm and 7.15pm on Saturday, December 1.

A black Toyota Hylux and a green Land Rover Defender went missing from Maidstone and Ashford on the same day.

Chief Inspector Lee Russell urged 4x4 owners to lock their vehicles, park in garages or well-lit areas, and to use immobilisers to deter thieves. He also suggested that owners install a tracking device.

The advice comes as Kent Police launches its Stay Safe this Winter campaign, which will focus on catching those responsible for crimes including the theft of cash machines. Police say larger vehicles, such as 4x4s or vans, have been used in attempts to remove cash machines.

Chief Inspector Russell added: "If you see anyone acting suspiciously near a cash machine, please report it to police by calling 101. If a crime is in progress, please call 999."

Anyone with information about the thefts should call Kent Police on 101.
